Characters Traits

Dear Class,
I can't believe that we already have read three chapters from The Outsiders!
We have seen that this is a novel that is full of dialogues, narratives, and characters.
Good readers are able to analyse the characters identities. They are able to infer information by their actions and see their changes and transformations through their conflicts, emotions and how they solve their conflicts. If we are good at studying the characters we will have a better understanding of the book.
Based on your reading, Can you tell me about a favorite character so far? Or any other character that help you understand better this book? Or about a character that intrigues you, fascinated or feel any personal connection?
Be sure to tell me: The character name, some physical characteristics, personality traits, the relationship to other characters, and any other relevant information.
Keep your reading and let me see your comments!

  2. Johnny

‘‘He had never been a coward’’ (Page 34)

‘’He was the most law abiding of us’’ (Page 34)

‘’He doesn’t come from a happy family’’ (His parents fight all the time) (Page 33)

‘’They also belt him all the time’’ (Page 33)

I can see these are not good sine of a person.

He was badly beaten by the Socs, now he is very scare and he is always carrying
a blade, I know he is going to get in trouble.

    1. Daviary,
I love the way you selected the evidence from the book, you are able to find the traits of this character by finding evidence in the story and not your own. This skill will be very valuable to you in analyzing more complex texts.

  3. I’m going to choose Johnny because we read a lot from Johnny on the book the outsiders. The personality trait from Johnny is that Johnny “had never been a coward”. He was badly beaten by the socs, now he is every scared and he will always carry a blade. I know that now he is going to get in trouble because he is carrying a blade. Johnny he doesn’t come from a happy family (his parents fight all the time page 33) they also belt him all the times (page 33)

    Physical characteristics:

. Long hair; light brown almost red hair.
    .Green hair
    Personality traits:

    .He likes to read
    .He likes movies
.He likes to go to the movies alone.
.He is a greaser By: Felix 721

  5. I like Johnny very much. Johnny has long hair.
He was badly beaten by the Socs, now he is very scared and he will always carry a blade. I know that now he is going to get in trouble. The book says that Johnny was the most law-abiding of the group but I think that is going to change now, because he is going to carry in his back pocket a six -inch switchblade.
He has never been a coward “(pg 34). He is a member of the greasers and a friend of Pony Boy. He doesn’t come from a happy family. His parents fight all the time. They also belt him all the time (pg 33). By Rosalia Fernandez

    1. Dear Elizabeth,
It is amazing that always when we read we make connections. When we read a novel we always find that we share similarities with certain characters that we learn to admire. That is the magic or reading.

    1. Dear Reinaldo and Adolfo,
I was so proud to see you working and motivated. It makes me very happy to see how much you like this book. The more we write the better we will get at this difficult craft. Look at the school writing rubric and you will see how important the mechanics of language(spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc) are to get a good grade. So, remember to write with capital letters the names of people(Pony Boy) and groups(Greasers. I know you know this but you need to be better at editing your work. Keep writing!
