The Outsiders: The 1960 Issues

Dear Class:

We are seing how the 1960s setting of this novel is vital for our understanding of this book. In class, we saw the Sixties coming alive. We did a time line of important events and saw important figures. We saw art and songs from the period. Now, I want to ask you. How do that era compare to our time. How are the Sixties similar to our year 2011? How is different? Think about your responses. Remember this is an academic setting so check your spelling and language, you can also check your notes and your Venn Diagram.

  1. I think these years are better. We have more technology. We use computers in our school and in the 1960’s that was impossible.

On the bad side these years are very though economically. I think there was more prosperity and more middle class back in the 60’s. However in the 60’s there were was a lot of political violence, a president was assassinated and now we have our first African-American President.

  2. Dear Daviary,
I was born in the Sixties and when I look back it looks so remote and distant.Certainly, there was a lot of political turmoil but maybe because I was a child at that time, those years look to me as an inocent period, compare to the complexities that we are facing now.
